Gold Humanism Honor Society Reward Recipient
The Gold Humanism Honor Society recognizes students, residents and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine. Members are peer nominated and are the ones that others say they want taking care of their own family. Since its inception in 2002, Gold Humanism Honor Society has grown in influence to become a vital part of medical school and residency training program cultures throughout the US.

Beselot Birhanu, affectionately known as Bessy, is revered as an invaluable resource to the medical profession by her peers. She has a depth of empathy in her nature that is rare to find. She knows how to treat her patients holistically and humanistically and truly personifies the concept of caring for the whole patient. Bessy is known to go above and beyond the normal responsibilities of a medical student and even doctors to make sure her patients’ needs are met. The way Bessy approaches medicine with an amazingly calm demeanor and a big heart, is admirable at best but, it’s the way Bessy embodies every sense of empowerment and inclusivity in the healthcare environment, along with constantly bringing people to the table and making sure that everyone feels heard and supported is why we would like to acknowledge and congratulate Bessy.
